Laptop silicon in a tower

The Lenovo LOQ Tower 17IRH11 is a 17-litre gaming desktop with a twist: the processor is a laptop part. VideoCardz reported on 11 September 2026 (13:43 UTC) that Lenovo is pairing Intel’s Core 5 205H and Core 7 230H, which Intel classes as mobile chips, with desktop GeForce graphics. The tower is expected in Europe in November 2026 with an estimated starting price of €999.

The Core 7 230H has 10 cores and 16 threads with boosts up to 5.2 GHz. The Core 5 205H has 8 cores and 12 threads and boosts up to 4.8 GHz. Both sit on an Intel RPL-H board in a chassis measuring 170 x 280 x 370 mm and starting at about 6.08 kg (13.4 lb).

Desktop GPUs, from RTX 3050 to 5060 Ti

Lenovo is not using mobile graphics here. Its PSREF database lists the GeForce RTX 3050 6GB GDDR6, RTX 5050 8GB GDDR6, RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7 and RTX 5060 Ti 8GB GDDR7, and Lenovo’s announcement specifically calls the RTX 5060 Ti a desktop GPU. Lenovo has not said which CPU and GPU pairing hits the €999 figure, so treat it as an entry price, not a promise about the RTX 5060 Ti model.

That mix is sensible on paper. A 10-core mobile CPU should be plenty for a card in this tier, since games at this level tend to lean on the GPU far more than on a few hundred megahertz of CPU clock. It also fits the compact 17L shell and the 400W and 500W power supplies Lenovo offers depending on configuration.

Where the upgrade path narrows

The laptop DNA runs through the memory too. The tower supports up to 32GB of DDR5-5200 through two SODIMM slots, the compact modules found in notebooks. There is still normal desktop expansion: one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, a PCIe 3.0 x1 slot, two M.2 SSD slots and space for a user-installed 3.5-inch drive. Connectivity goes up to Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth 5.4, and storage options go up to 1TB of PCIe Gen4 SSD.

Our read: the GPU slot and the storage bays are the easy upgrades, and they cover most of what a budget gamer actually changes. The CPU is the part to treat as fixed, because a mobile processor is not something you swap for the next generation the way you might on a standard desktop board. Memory tops out at 32GB, and SODIMM kits are a smaller market than standard desktop DIMMs.

Who should buy, and who should wait

Buy if you want a compact, ready-to-run gaming PC and the price lands near €999 with a current-generation RTX 50 card inside. In that case the mobile CPU is an engineering detail, not a drawback, and a 17L case is easier to live with than a mid-tower. Check which configuration that price covers first, since Lenovo has not tied it to a specific CPU and GPU.

Wait, or look elsewhere, if you like to rebuild a PC every few years. Our guide to prebuilt versus building your own gaming PC walks through that trade-off, and you can price a socketed build in our PC Builder to see what the same money buys.

US buyers will have to wait longer for a verdict. Lenovo’s US announcement gives no price for the tower and says only that pricing and availability will vary by region. For more on laptop-class silicon, see our look at the Ryzen AI 500 and Windows AI roadmap.

The LOQ Tower is a fair idea if the price holds: a tidy, compact 17L box with real desktop graphics. It just is not the upgradeable desktop its shape suggests, and that is worth knowing before you buy.
