Best PC games 2026 still means games that hold up after the launch week

Best PC games 2026 picks that still earn Steam heat: open-world RPGs, co-op shooters, and story games worth finishing — not just launch-week noise.

What belongs on a 2026 PC list

The best PC games 2026 conversation is noisy because every storefront shouts “new”. We keep the bar simple: a title that still has a large, active Steam audience, critical scores that held, and a reason to boot it after the first weekend — story, co-op, or a world that rewards wandering.

Steam recommendation totals below were read from each game’s store page on 4 November 2026. They move daily; treat them as a snapshot, not a forever ranking.

Story and systems RPGs

  • Baldur’s Gate 3 (Larian) — Metacritic 96 on Steam’s store page; ~761K Steam recommendations when checked. The party RPG bar for PC.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (CD PROJEKT RED) — Metacritic 86; ~909K recommendations. Phantom Liberty turned the Night City run into a finished RPG.
  • Elden Ring (FromSoftware) — Metacritic 94; ~835K recommendations. Still the open-world action RPG default.

If you are deep in Faerûn or Night City already, our mods guides for Baldur’s Gate 3 mods and Cyberpunk 2077 mods point at the filters we keep current — without pretending we tested every load order.

Action, co-op, and spectacle

  • Helldivers 2 (Arrowhead) — ~852K Steam recommendations. Chaotic four-player missions with a live-service cadence that actually keeps squads coming back.
  • Black Myth: Wukong (Game Science) — ~884K recommendations. Single-player boss-rush spectacle that landed hard on PC.
  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (Saber) — Metacritic 82; ~174K recommendations. Third-person carnage that scales from campaign to co-op ops.

How to pick without chasing every sale

Match the genre to the machine. A 1440p build aimed at Wukong or Space Marine 2 should start from our best GPU for 1440p and AMD vs Nvidia GPU notes, then land the cooler and PSU in PC Builder. Co-op nights lean Helldivers; long single-player winters lean BG3 or Elden Ring.

This is an editorial shortlist anchored to public Steam and Metacritic figures on the store pages named above, checked 4 November 2026.

Palworld (~418K Steam recommendations when checked) and Deep Rock Galactic (~304K, Metacritic 85) sit just outside this shortlist only because we already cover co-op depth elsewhere — they are still excellent PC installs if creature collecting or dwarf mining is the night’s brief.

Avoid buying on trailer heat alone. A Steam page with a recent major update, a Metacritic that held after launch patches, and a genre you already finish beats a shiny Early Access banner. Re-check the store page on the day you buy — recommendation totals move, and seasonal sales change the value math.

Our take

If you only install three: Baldur’s Gate 3 for systems depth, Elden Ring for the open map, Helldivers 2 for friends. Everything else on this page is a strong fourth depending on whether you want spectacle (Wukong), Night City (Cyberpunk), or bolter noise (Space Marine 2).
