Best co-op games PC lobbies still fill: Helldivers 2, It Takes Two, Deep Rock Galactic, Valheim and Space Marine 2 — pick by session length.

Co-op that respects your evening

The best co-op games PC lists usually dump fifty titles on you. This one stays short: sessions you can finish on a weeknight, plus one sandbox that eats weekends on purpose. Steam recommendation totals were read from each store page on 4 November 2026.

Two-player story nights

  • It Takes Two (Hazelight) — Metacritic 89; ~221K Steam recommendations. Built for exactly two players; every puzzle assumes a partner.

Drop-in squad shooters

  • Helldivers 2 (Arrowhead) — ~852K recommendations. Four-player missions, friendly fire, and a live war map that keeps the joke going.
  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (Saber) — Metacritic 82; ~174K recommendations. Campaign plus Operations when you want bolters without a battle pass lecture.
  • Deep Rock Galactic (Ghost Ship) — Metacritic 85; ~304K recommendations. Four dwarves, procedural caves, optional voice chat chaos.

Sandbox weekends

  • Valheim (Iron Gate) — Metacritic 89; ~477K recommendations. Survival crafting that scales from a duo weekend to a dedicated server.
  • Palworld (Pocketpair) — ~418K recommendations. Creature collection with base-building and multiplayer that fills evenings fast.

Hardware-wise, Helldivers 2 and Space Marine 2 are the ones that push a mid-range GPU. Start from our best GPU for 1440p notes, then confirm the cooler and PSU in PC Builder before you invite the Discord.

Session length cheat sheet

  • Under two hours: a Helldivers 2 operation or a Deep Rock mission when people have to leave for work in the morning.
  • One long evening: It Takes Two chapters — pause between acts without breaking progress for either player.
  • Weekend servers: Valheim or Palworld, where the fun is the base you return to, not a single match timer.

Mic culture differs. Helldivers and Deep Rock reward call-outs; It Takes Two works fine on a sofa with one shared room. Pick the social contract before you pick the Steam library share, or the first wipe becomes a friendship test.

Host migration and cross-play still differ by title — read each store page’s multiplayer section on the day you buy. This shortlist is about session shape and Steam heat, not a promise that every friend’s Deck or Xbox PC Game Pass install will matchmake the same way.
