Gamescom hardware wave
Gamescom 2026 brought a heavier-than-usual wave of PC hardware announcements alongside the usual game trailers. ASUS Republic of Gamers marked its 20th anniversary with a broad lineup: a 720Hz OLED gaming monitor, the Gladius IV Ace mouse, WiFi 8 routers, an XG Core external GPU dock, and a TUF Onimusha Edition graphics card. The standout is arguably the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a Windows 11 handheld built around AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor.
Samsung’s showcase centered on the Odyssey G8, billed as the world’s first 6K gaming monitor. Its Dual Mode setup lets players toggle between a full 6K resolution at 165Hz or drop to 3K at 330Hz depending on whether they want fidelity or frame rate. Samsung also revealed the 9100 PRO, a new high-performance SSD positioned for next-generation gaming loads.
Nvidia used the show to push software over silicon, unveiling DLSS 4.5 with an upgraded Ray Reconstruction model and announcing broader publisher support for RTX Spark, its Windows AI platform aimed at compact desktops and slim laptops. Nvidia is targeting 1440p gaming above 100 fps on RTX Spark systems, which the company says will start arriving this fall.
Taken together, the announcements lean toward higher-end displays and AI-assisted rendering rather than a straightforward new GPU generation — consistent with Nvidia holding off on new gaming silicon this year while memory prices stay elevated industry-wide.
