Day-one support and fixes
AMD shipped Adrenalin Edition 26.8.1 on August 20, and the headline feature is day-one driver support for three new releases: STAR WARS Zero Company, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and the open beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Buried under that is a shorter, more useful list — three specific bugs AMD says are now fixed — and a longer list of six the company admits are still broken.
The fixes are narrow but real. Marvel Rivals and Subnautica 2 were failing to launch entirely on RX 7000-series cards and newer when running in a multi-adapter, or “combined graphics,” configuration — the setup that pairs a discrete GPU with an APU’s integrated graphics. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III had the same combined-graphics problem on RX 9000-series cards, but as a crash on startup rather than a launch failure. And Adrenalin’s own recording and replay tools were failing to save clips on RX 9000 Windows 10 systems whenever no audio device was selected — a fairly specific trigger, but one that would silently eat a recorded clip with no error shown.

What didn’t get fixed is the more interesting half of the release notes. AMD’s own known-issues list for 26.8.1 runs six items deep: AI Bundle installation can fail in regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub; Smart Access Memory can get disabled after installing on Windows 10; FSR features may show as inactive in Modern Warfare 4 on RX 9000 cards; Anti-Lag 2 can misreport as inactive in Resonance after Frame Generation is turned off; Cyberpunk 2077 still requires a minimum of 6GB of VRAM, which means the 4GB retail variant of the RX 9050 needs its settings turned down to run it at all; and RX 9000-series owners are told to stick with the older 26.7.1 driver for Starfield, since 26.8.1 can still crash intermittently in that game.

None of that is unusual for a driver cycle that’s shipping new-game support on a tight window — day-one drivers routinely trade a few fresh bugs for launch-day compatibility, and AMD is at least documenting the tradeoffs instead of burying them. For RX 7000 and RX 9000 owners, 26.8.1 is worth installing for the three confirmed fixes, especially if Modern Warfare III or Marvel Rivals wouldn’t launch before. Starfield players on RX 9000 hardware are the one clear exception — hold on 26.7.1 until AMD closes that regression. The next dot release is the thing to watch: whether it clears this list or just adds Zero Company’s own day-one issues to it.
