What you are buying
Red Barrels released the game on 5 March 2024, after an early-access run that began in May 2023. The setup, per the Steam page, is that you are one of many human guinea pigs recruited by the Murkoff Corporation in the Cold War era to test brainwashing and mind-control methods.
You can go through the trials alone or in a team of 2, 3 or 4 players. Steam says co-op is never forced for mandatory objectives, though working together can help. The core loop is the Outlast one: avoid enemies, hide from them and run. Murkoff-issued tools let you stun or blind enemies, see through walls and heal yourself and others.

The page also lists character customisation and a cell you can decorate. There are 27 Steam achievements, and the game is tagged Horror, Multiplayer, Co-op, Survival Horror and First-Person. Steam shows its user reviews as Very Positive, both overall in English and for recent reviews.
Our take
We would buy it this weekend: a 2024 co-op horror game with a recent content update (the Season 7.2 update went live on 20 October 2026) is a good fit for a Halloween session with friends. The discount also leaves room to buy it just for yourself and go solo.
If you are building a horror queue, we also flagged our Resident Evil 4 remake deal and our Sons Of The Forest deal. Check each one’s end date before you commit.

Before you click buy
- It is graphic. Steam’s content warning lists intense violence, gore, graphic sexual content and strong language, plus strobing and flashing lights that could trigger seizures in a small percentage of people.
- Anti-cheat. The page says the game uses Easy Anti-Cheat at kernel level, which needs manual removal after you uninstall the game, and it requires agreement to a third-party EULA.
- Specs. Windows 10 and a 64-bit system are required. Steam lists 8 GB of RAM and 40 GB of storage as the minimum and 16 GB of RAM as recommended. A broadband connection is needed.
- Platform. The Steam listing shows Windows only.
The Steam store page is at store.steampowered.com/app/1304930. With the offer ending on Monday evening, South African time, this weekend is the time to decide.
