KB5121003 crash fixed
Arc System Works patched the Windows 11 crash bug out of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls on August 28, three weeks after Microsoft’s KB5121003 update started breaking the fighting game on PC. The same release adds a new Battle Reborn suit for Wolverine and fixes a handful of PS5-only issues.

The patch notes, posted to Tōkon’s Steam page, credit the fix to “an issue where Windows Update KB5121003 could cause the game to crash.” A second PC fix in the same update stops the game from repeatedly triggering Steam’s platform update process, a separate stability issue Arc System Works bundled into the same release. Microsoft shipped KB5121003 on August 11 and didn’t add a gaming-related entry to the update’s own known-issues page until August 20, when it logged “reports of certain games becoming unresponsive.”

Tōkon wasn’t the only game caught by Windows 11’s August security patch. Embark Studios traced the same crash in Arc Raiders to inpoutx64.sys, a kernel-level driver file KB5121003 altered. “We’re aware of a new crash introduced with the release of a Windows update (KB5121003) that may be affecting some of you,” the studio told players, and its fix is a manual one: open Command Prompt as administrator and delete the driver file by hand. The Finals hit the same wall. Arc System Works went the other way and shipped a client-side patch, so Tōkon players don’t have to touch anything under the hood.

This is the third patch with PC-specific fixes since Tōkon launched on August 6. The August 10 update targeted CPU usage and frame-rate drops flagged during the open beta, and the August 21 patch focused on network stability in the Arcadia Rumble multiplayer mode along with several combo and camera bugs. Both of those releases were stability-only; August 28 is the first to pair a fix with new content, in this case Wolverine’s suit.

Microsoft hasn’t shipped a fix of its own. KB5121003’s known-issues page still lists the crash reports as open, with a workaround attached instead of a resolution, which is why Arc Raiders and The Finals players are still on the manual fix. Tōkon’s own patch notes flag one new problem in its place: replays recorded before August 28 won’t play back anymore, and a Connection Speed setting in matchmaking is currently showing the wrong help text.
