A PC performance asterisk
This is a review roundup — GearChamber has not hunted in Monster Hunter Wilds. Critic consensus score: 89 (OpenCritic 2025 PC). Steam’s store page showed no Metacritic score when we checked; PC performance is covered separately below.
Capcom launched Wilds on 27 February 2025. Critically it sits with the year’s strong releases. On PC, Digital Foundry’s launch coverage was blunt enough that “can’t recommend the PC version” became its own headline — later patches walked some of that back.
Critic scores vs PC tech
| Source | Signal | Takeaway |
|---|---|---|
| OpenCritic (PC 2025) | 89 avg | Critic average among 2025’s best PC games |
| Digital Foundry (launch) | PC caution | Launch DF piece: serious PC issues; wary of 8GB GPUs |
| Digital Foundry (TU4) | Improved | Title Update 4: up to ~20% faster in DF’s later notes |

Digital Foundry’s launch PC coverage framed Wilds as a title it could not recommend on PC in that state — later updates documented material frame-time gains.

How to read the 89
An 89 OpenCritic score answers “is the hunt good?” Digital Foundry’s launch article answers “is the PC build healthy?” Those are different questions. By December 2025 DF was measuring Title Update 4 gains “up to 20% faster” — still not a clean bill of health from day one, but the patch trail matters if you buy today.
Consensus
Gameplay consensus: strong. PC launch consensus: rough, improving. Buy on PC if you have headroom above 8GB VRAM and a tolerance for Capcom’s patch cadence; otherwise read DF’s latest numbers before you click.
