Pros

  • Combat depth critics call richer than Hades 1
  • Cast and writing praised across high scores
  • Steam Deck Verified noted in reviews

Cons

  • Early crafting/Incantation gate called tedious even at 1.0

Both aggregators land on 94

The consensus score below is Metacritic’s PC metascore of 94, which matches OpenCritic’s 2025 PC ranking average of 94.

Supergiant’s sequel locked 1.0 on 25 September 2025. By mid-October it sat at the top of OpenCritic’s best PC games of 2025 list, with Steam showing well over 100,000 recommendations on the store page.

Despite some stumbles in its opening hours, Hades 2 blooms with flexible combat and unforgettable characters.

Where critics agree

Across the high scores, the praise clusters on Melinoë’s magic-layered combat and the density of boon combinations. PC Gamer’s Tyler Colp calls her “exceptionally more fun to play than Zagreus” and treats the Surface route as the design payoff that justifies the sequel’s complexity.

The shared complaint is the opening hours: reagent grinding and Incantations that read like a survival-crafting prologue before the run loop breathes. Colp says the 1.0 launch still had him “worried about collecting enough silver” before the “table-setting stops.”

PC notes from the reviews

PC Gamer’s review hardware list included an RTX 5090 and called the Steam Deck Verified. Steam’s own deck verification badge is on the store page. No Digital Foundry-style stutter scandal attached to this launch — the critical conversation stayed on design, not drivers.

Consensus

A 94 Metacritic / 94 OpenCritic average with an 88 from PC Gamer is not a unanimous perfect — it is a very high floor with a named pacing caveat. If you bounced off the Early Access grind, the 1.0 reviews say the same wall exists, then collapses into the best version of what Hades already was.
