Three months for polish

The God of War Laufey delay is official: Santa Monica Studio has moved the PlayStation 5 game from 16 February 2027 to 20 May 2027, a slip of roughly three months, as Game Informer reported on 4 November. PlayStation Blog updated its pre-order post the same day with the new date.

The studio’s own words

Game Informer quotes a statement from Santa Monica Studio that frames the extra time as finishing work:

We don’t take for granted the trusted place in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey’s release to May 20, 2027. We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.

Santa Monica Studio statement, as quoted by Game Informer

The studio closes by saying it appreciates fans’ patience and will “be back to share more updates soon.” The statement gives no further detail on what the extra months cover, and we won’t guess. But “finishing touches” is the language of a game that is close, not one in trouble, and we think three months is a fair price for that promise. Slipping now beats shipping in February and patching afterwards.

What pre-order holders should know

PlayStation Blog’s post now lists 20 May 2027 (was 16 February) for the game. The pre-order bonus is the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance (cosmetic) and an in-game resource pack. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Blade, Bow Scales and Catalyst, an in-game resource pack, a Digital Mini Artbook and the Official Digital Soundtrack. Pre-orders went live on 29 September.

The Collector Box, which is sold without the game, moves to 20 May too. It costs $149.99 / €149.99 / £129.99 and contains a Light-Up Faye Statue (eight inches, showing Faye, Phranque and Rue fighting Begtse’s soldiers, with Phranque lighting up on USB power), a 51-Card Oracle Deck with illustrations by Megan Lara and a Physical Mini Artbook. PlayStation says it is available in highly limited quantities, exclusively direct from PlayStation where available. Pre-orders for the box began on 13 October.

The sources we read say nothing about changes to terms for people who have already ordered, so for questions about your own order, ask the store you used.

Another slip, another trade

It is not the only recent delay we have covered. The Duskbloods slipped into 2027 for a final rules and balance pass, and FFXIV’s Evercold slipped three weeks. Our view is the same each time: a firm new date and a stated reason beat a date everyone quietly stops believing.

Meanwhile PlayStation Blog’s post details Faye’s Serpent Bow: a full-aim precision mode where you can stack up to five arrows for a volley, a half-aim hip-fire mode for a cluster of arrows at close range, rapid fire, explosive and multi-target arrow types, and swappable Scales with unique perks. Gear customization is split into Blade, Scales and Catalyst. This is what Sony has described so far.
